It was exciting scouting out for a place to stay in picturesque Santorini. Imagine the strikingly beautiful blue and white structures built on its cliffs, most of it hotels and inns. It was both fun and a bit of a dilemma for me as there was a whole range of options stretching from Fira to Imerovigli and then to Oia. The question was, which one?
Of course my friends and I wanted a panoramic view of the caldera. Who wouldn’t? Even before we left, we already pictured ourselves relaxing on a veranda marveling at the famous Santorini sunset.
Our first consideration was the budget. We all agreed to spend nothing more than a hundred euros per person per night, the place had to be comfortable and clean, was in a quiet area away from the crowds and the action and should be within walking distance to places to eat.
Because I always plan ahead and I mean way ahead (I’m talking months here) I had time to surf the internet reading blogs and reviews about Santorini accommodations and found Villa Lukas. It perfectly fitted the bill.
Villa Lukas has five traditionally and tastefully designed apartments and is situated in quiet Imerovigli which is only 2 kilometers from busy Fira. It had two entrances, one at the top and then a small wooden blue gate at the bottom that opens to a concrete path that runs all the way to Fira and through houses and hotels along the cliff. It made it easy for us to get around. Near the villa are taverns, mini markets, some shops and cafes. The entire villa itself was just the right size, not too large, not too small. It was cozy and homey.
We found the perfect place for us; Villa Lukas was at the right location, had the right ambience, Lukas was the most accommodating and funny host and the view, simply gorgeous.
And I thought there weren’t words to describe that perfect place! Villas Lukas did make our stay more perfect in a magical world that is Santorini. To paraphrase a quote from a movie, “i say these words as a prayer, as regret, as praise. I say Santorini, Santorini!”
